Days 16 & 17

September at LAST!!

This head cold is really kicking my butt, but I am still dragging it out of bed every morning and giving it my all. But I am not spending as much time in the evening prepping for the next day. That is what led me to be in the teacher break room slash workroom during lunch time today. I usually avoid this space….and for good reason.

Today I was struck by Grass is Greener Syndrome. I completely believe that teaching is a calling, you know, similar to being a nun, and even the Gen Ed teachers have their annoyances and hardships. Today, after listening to one such teacher, I was left feeling jealous of her hardships and willing to volunteer to trade places and vacation in her classroom any time!

I actually listened to a teacher today complain that her students (elementary age students) ask TOO MANY QUESTIONS!?!?!?! WTH?? Is that even a thing? She droned on and on and on about it. After 15 minutes, I had had enough and I luckily finished what I needed to do and I walked out. Before entering the workroom I was flying high on my successful morning….ALL of my students sat for 5 ENTIRE minutes and attended to calendar time before anyone had a off-track behavior outburst (I am choosing to ignore the fact that 3 of them were absent today). Then after a few short minutes of chaos, they were able to recover for a read aloud story. THIS WAS HUGE PROGRESS!! In just 3 weeks time! Then after leaving the workroom, I was jealous that the teacher has students that ask questions, and too many at that!

Oh well! I love my students and I love what I do. And today I relearned a valuable lesson…avoid the staff room during lunch time! Nothing needs to be prepped that much!!

Now, it’s time for a shot of Niquil followed by my wine chaser! Good Night…
